Far from Any Road - The Handsome Family

From the dusty mesa her looming shadow grows

Hidden in the branches of the poison creosote

She twines her spines up slowly towards the boiling sun

And when I touched her skin, my fingers ran with blood

In the hushing dusk, under a swollen silver moon

I came walking with the wind to watch the cactus bloom

And strange hunger haunted me, the looming shadows danced

I fell down to the thorny brush and felt the trembling hands

When the last light warms the rocks and the rattlesnakes unfold

The mountain cats will come to drag away your bones

And rise with me forever across the silent sand

And the stars will be your eyes and the wind will be my hands

De la mesa poussiéreuse, son ombre imminente grandit

Caché dans les branches du poison créosote

Elle enroule lentement ses épines vers le soleil brûlant

Et quand j'ai touché sa peau, mes doigts ont coulé de sang

Dans le crépuscule silencieux, sous une lune argentée gonflée

Je suis venu marcher avec le vent pour regarder fleurir les cactus

Et une étrange faim me hantait, les ombres menaçantes dansaient

Je suis tombé sur le buisson épineux et j'ai senti les mains tremblantes

Quand la dernière lumière réchauffe les rochers et que les serpents à sonnette se déploient

Les chats des montagnes viendront arracher tes os

Et monte avec moi pour toujours à travers le sable silencieux

Et les étoiles seront tes yeux et le vent sera mes mains
