I saw the green falling back to sleep

Dreaming things for our children yet to be

And hollow faces worn with age in me

Turn away to younger days and weep

And I swallowed the raindrops

And I followed the same thought

I felt some fate come tugging on my veins

A heavy weight reaching to my brain

Of petty things, the storing up of grains

Learned to see the green increasing every gain

And I swallowed the raindrops

It’s tragic, this greatness is a fragile oasis
