In the winter of 1935

In the town of Tupelo

The thin walls of a shotgun shack

Was my shelter from the cold

Twin boys were born on a winter’s day

One laid still as coal

So they laid them down in the cold ground

To sleep beneath the snow

They walk the dirt road hand in hand

To school in back again

Is the only child she’ll ever have

He’s his only friend

And as the darkness falls and the night birds call

They turn on the radio

To sing along till the crack of dawn

Across the tracks of Tupelo

They rode the sky like lightning

The breeze in the holler wailed

They sang a song that was pure and strong

That gave like rock & roll

His life became a lesson his legend became to grow

The angels sang on the day he came

To get born in Tupelo

Chanter jusqu'à l'aube

Sur les traces de Tupelo

Ils chevauchaient le ciel comme la foudre

La brise dans le hurlement gémissait

Ils ont chanté une chanson qui était pure et forte

Qui a donné comme du rock & roll

Sa vie est devenue une leçon, sa légende est devenue grandir

Les anges ont chanté le jour de sa venue
