Today is the first time I’ve been home in many a years

Remembering how things used to be I can’t hold back the tears

The house is barely standing and the barn has rotted down

And someone planted trees all over Papa’s farming ground

The weeds had almost hidden papa’s wagon standing there

I thought how long it’s been since gentle hands touched it with care

I remember when he bought it even Mama went along

He walked to led the mules to town and proudly brought it home

She was in the wagon every time we went to town

And when I told her of my plans she cried and said you’re wrong

But I just wouldn’t listen so I ran away from home

Too young to get a job I robbed a man in Frisco yard

The wagon I had rode next was driven by a guard

Mam and Pap they kept my secret till their dying day

That’s why no one could find me when they both had passed a way

Aujourd'hui, c'est la première fois que je rentre à la maison depuis de nombreuses années

Me rappelant comment les choses étaient, je ne peux pas retenir mes larmes

La maison est à peine debout et la grange est pourrie

Et quelqu'un a planté des arbres partout sur le terrain agricole de papa

Les mauvaises herbes avaient presque caché le chariot de papa qui se tenait là

Je pensais depuis combien de temps des mains douces ne l'avaient pas touché avec soin

Je me souviens quand il l'a acheté, même maman l'a accompagné

Il a marché pour mener les mules en ville et l'a fièrement ramené à la maison

Je me souviens de Tammy Jones qui habitait la maison d'à côté

Elle était dans le wagon chaque fois que nous allions en ville

Et quand je lui ai parlé de mes plans, elle a pleuré et a dit que tu avais tort

Mais je ne voulais tout simplement pas écouter alors je me suis enfui de chez moi

Trop jeune pour obtenir un emploi, j'ai volé un homme dans la cour de Frisco

Le chariot que j'avais ensuite conduit était conduit par un garde

Mam et Pap ils ont gardé mon secret jusqu'à leur dernier jour

C'est pourquoi personne ne pouvait me trouver alors qu'ils étaient tous les deux passés par là

Et je peux nous voir rouler maintenant dans un tout nouveau wagon
