Sincerity is a hard hand to play

Cutting down all our old friends

Awash in sarcasm and alcohol

With the banalities of pubescence

Where such arrogance is no luxury of the defeated

And the notions leech circumscribed by boys' speech

And all empathy is unseated

When your knees get weak

And your conscience falls fast asleep

Do you water the native grass

Like the internalized weeds

But the debate rages

If we’re detracted or augmented

If our skins grow thick in cruelty or improvement

I am sure some would stop us right there

Under the auspice of containment

And I am certain that some might find it scathing

But wit sarcasm and criticism

Form the basis of further conversation

La sincérité est une main difficile à jouer

Abattre tous nos vieux amis

Inondé de sarcasme et d'alcool

Où une telle arrogance n'est pas un luxe pour les vaincus

Et les notions sangsues circonscrites par le discours des garçons

Et toute empathie n'est pas assise

Quand tes genoux deviennent faibles

Et ta conscience s'endort profondément

Arrosez-vous l'herbe indigène ?

Comme les mauvaises herbes intériorisées

Mais le débat fait rage

Si nous sommes détournés ou augmentés

Si nos peaux s'épaississent dans la cruauté ou l'amélioration

Je suis sûr que certains nous arrêteraient ici

Sous l'égide du confinement

Et je suis certain que certains pourraient trouver cela cinglant

Mais avec sarcasme et critique

Former la base d'une conversation ultérieure
