Well it is of the jolly butcher as you might plainly see

As he roved out one morning in search of company

He went into a tavern and a fair girl he did see

Ah come for one night, be my wife, oh come along with me

He called for liquor of the best

And he makes such fortune play

Come have a drink, it will make us think

That it is our wedding day

Well he called for a candle to light their way to bed

And when he had her in the room these words to her he said,

«A sovereign I will give to you, for to embrace your charms

And all that night, that fair young maid, lied in the butchers' arms

Oh, Early the next morning be sure it went his way

He looked unto that fair young maid and unto her did say,

«That sovereign that I gave to you, do not think me strange,

Well that sovereign that I gave to you will you give me back me change!»

Well about a 12 months later he roved out once more

And he went into the tavern where he’d often been before

He wasn’t in there very long when his fair maid he did see

And she brought forth a baby three months old and placed it on his knee

When he saw the baby, he began to curse and swear

And he said unto that fair young maid, «Why did you bring him here?!»

«Well he is your own, kind sir», she said, «Do not think me strange,

Well that sovereign that you gave to me, I gives you back your change!!»

Oh ne veux-tu pas venir avec moi mon amour

Viens avec moi!

Viens pour une nuit et sois ma femme

Et viens avec moi

Eh bien, c'est du boucher joyeux comme vous pouvez le voir clairement

Alors qu'il sortait un matin à la recherche de compagnie

Il est entré dans une taverne et une belle fille qu'il a vue

Ah viens pour une nuit, sois ma femme, oh viens avec moi

Il a appelé à l'alcool du meilleur

Et il fait jouer une telle fortune

Viens boire un verre, ça nous fera réfléchir

Que c'est le jour de notre mariage

Eh bien, il a appelé une bougie pour éclairer leur chemin vers le lit

Et quand il l'eut dans la pièce, ces mots lui dirent :

« Je te donnerai un souverain, pour embrasser tes charmes

Et toute cette nuit, cette belle jeune fille, a menti dans les bras des bouchers

Oh, tôt le lendemain matin, assurez-vous qu'il a suivi son chemin

Il regarda cette belle jeune fille et lui dit :

"Ce souverain que je t'ai donné, ne me trouve pas étrange,

Eh bien, ce souverain que je t'ai donné, tu me rendras la monnaie !"

Eh bien, environ 12 mois plus tard, il est sorti une fois de plus

Et il entra dans la taverne où il était souvent allé auparavant

Il n'était pas là depuis très longtemps quand il a vu sa belle femme de chambre

Et elle a mis au monde un bébé de trois mois et l'a placé sur son genou

Quand il a vu le bébé, il a commencé à jurer et jurer

Et il dit à cette belle jeune fille : « Pourquoi l'as-tu amené ici ? »

"Eh bien, il est le vôtre, gentil monsieur", dit-elle, "Ne me trouvez pas étrange,

Eh bien ce souverain que tu m'as donné, je te rends ta monnaie !! »
