The Ballad of Nora Lee - Helldorado

Once upon a time there lived a lady young and fair

Raven hair and rosy cheeks and no one to compare

Daughter of a noble man in a little town

And her name was Nora Lee, and it was spoken all around

It’s told that she was courted by two men of different kin

One of them a shoemaker that made boots of lizard skin

The other was the sheriff in this little town

And he swore he’d marry her or else he’d put her in the ground

One night the moon was brightly shining in the sky

She went to see the shoemaker and with him she did lie

«You are my own true love» she whispered soft and low

But they’d been spied upon that night, and soon the sheriff he would know

Then came a cold and dark night and the wind was blowin' free

The sheriff and his men they tied poor Nora to a tree

Full of wickedness they stole her maidenhead

Then they stabbed her with a knife ‘till they were sure she was dead

Her body it was found the next day on the banks below

The news was heard and many hearts were filled with grief and woe

«The guilty one will soon be hung» the sheriff he did claim

And he called upon his men, the shoemaker to blame

The scaffold it was built and all the people gathered round

Just to watch that poor boy taken to his hangin' ground

The rope was tied around his neck for everyone to see

And as the hangman pulled the rope, then he would meet his Nora Lee

Cheveux corbeau et joues roses et personne à comparer

Fille d'un homme noble dans une petite ville

Et son nom était Nora Lee, et ça a été prononcé tout autour

On raconte qu'elle a été courtisée par deux hommes de parents différents

L'un d'eux était un cordonnier qui fabriquait des bottes en peau de lézard

L'autre était le shérif de cette petite ville

Et il a juré qu'il l'épouserait ou sinon il la mettrait sous terre

Une nuit, la lune brillait de mille feux dans le ciel

Elle est allée voir le cordonnier et avec lui elle a menti

"Tu es mon propre véritable amour" murmura-t-elle doucement et bas

Mais ils avaient été espionnés cette nuit-là, et bientôt le shérif qu'il connaîtrait

Puis vint une nuit froide et sombre et le vent soufflait librement

Le shérif et ses hommes ont attaché la pauvre Nora à un arbre

Pleins de méchanceté, ils ont volé sa jeune fille

Puis ils l'ont poignardée avec un couteau jusqu'à ce qu'ils soient sûrs qu'elle était morte

Son corps a été retrouvé le lendemain sur les rives en contrebas

La nouvelle a été entendue et de nombreux cœurs ont été remplis de chagrin et de malheur

"Le coupable sera bientôt pendu" le shérif a-t-il affirmé

Et il appela ses hommes, le cordonnier à blâmer

L'échafaud a été construit et tout le monde s'est rassemblé autour

Juste pour regarder ce pauvre garçon emmené sur son terrain suspendu

La corde était attachée autour de son cou pour que tout le monde puisse voir

Et alors que le bourreau tirait la corde, il rencontrait sa Nora Lee
