I tried to wear the world

Like some kind of garment

I reach my fingers down inside

Of every single pocket

In fabric stained and torn and ripped

Pulling at the seams, I wander out

Onto the streets and subways

Perhaps so gracelessly

It does not matter to the world if I embody it

It could not matter less that I wanted to be a part of it

Still I fumble with my hands and took

To open it, to part it

I tried to wear the world

Like some kind of jacket

It does not keep me warm, I cannot

Ever seem to fasten it

Bodies never warned not to move

They wanted all of it

The light did stumble down from the sky

In spite of all of it

Why can’t I be the body

Graceful in the cloth of it?

Why can’t you want me for the

Way I cannot handle it?

Don’t turn me around

I’m already on the ground

I tried to wear each word

That you had ever said to me

Even as careless as it turns out

You have been with me

I stood and reached out to hold

Everything that I am told

Comme une sorte de vêtement

Je mets mes doigts à l'intérieur

En tissu taché et déchiré et déchiré

Dans les rues et les métros

Peut-être si sans grâce

Malgré tout tout ça
