But I stayed in bed cause in my mind there was so much goin' on

Chris Squire died the other night and it brought tears to my eyes

Cause I’d just saw the Italian film Youth where his song played five or six

times

The love song «Onward"Chris Squire was the Starship Trooper

The angelic songbird brought down by Leukemia I heard

I remember spinning The Yes Album with my childhood friend Christopher

Who was battling Leukemia too and losin' his hair

We were in his brother’s bedroom hanging out with his older brother

Spinnin' «I've Seen All Good People"and «Your Move"over and over

That green album and learning to play guitar became my obsession

While everyone else was trapping muskrats and shooting Winchesters and

Remingtons

Christopher died a year later

Last time I saw him we were smoking laced reefer

Some crazy guy was chasing us with a baseball bat and Christopher and I just

laughed

A warm sunny memory a stringer full of fish

It wasn’t long after he was killed by a bus

A divine intervention cause he was losing the bout and losing his voice

He refused to suffer in a hospital cause he just wanted to live like everyone

else and have fun and hang out

We went to his memorial and his brother was a drunk, angry mess

He was crying and kicking and out of his mind and threatening to kill us

So the next morning we returned to Christopher’s grave

The same graveyard where he and I used to drink Bud Light all day

But on went my life and I bought all the Yes albums

Yeah, even the ninety-nine cent cut-out bin Tormato

And I saw Yes back in Ohio, then at The Warfield in San Francisco

And Jon Anderson had so much energy he was jumping around and hitting every note

But when we came home my girlfriend learned it was some other guy they found on

YouTube from Ontario

We were pretty far back that shows you what I know

Years later I got a call from director Paolo Sorrentino

He loved the song «Onward», he said it was a great American ballad and I said

«No, It’s by Chris Squire"and shrugged like whatever and puffed his cigar

And he flew me out to Switzerland and he filmed me playing the song all day long

Me singing «Onward"to some extras and Michael Caine out on a lawn

And for everyone out there who hasn’t heard it, trust me «Onward»

is a great love song

I finally got to see Paolo’s film on a day off in Milan

The main theme of the soundtrack was that dreamy, old love song

The movie was dubbed in Italian and Steve Shelley fell asleep

But thank god for «Onward"because they cut all my other scenes

I think of John Paul Jones and John Entwistle and the great bass players of

that time

But the guy who cut through like no other guy was the guy who played his Rick

with a pick, Chris Squire

And I laid in bed and I thought of those old albums

Close to the Edge and Relayer and Going for the One and Fragile

The last one Yes ever made was Heaven and Earth

If heaven is real then none belong there more than Chris Squire and my long

lost friend, Christopher

Spinnin' "J'ai vu toutes les bonnes personnes" et "Your Move" encore et encore

Cet album vert et apprendre à jouer de la guitare sont devenus mon obsession

Pendant que tout le monde piégeait des rats musqués et tirait sur des Winchesters et

Remington

Christopher est décédé un an plus tard

La dernière fois que je l'ai vu, nous fumions des cabanons lacés

Un fou nous poursuivait avec une batte de baseball et Christopher et moi

Un souvenir chaud et ensoleillé un limon plein de poissons

Peu de temps après, il a été tué par un bus

Une intervention divine parce qu'il perdait le combat et perdait sa voix

Il a refusé de souffrir dans un hôpital parce qu'il voulait juste vivre comme tout le monde

autre et amusez-vous et sortez

Nous sommes allés à son mémorial et son frère était un gâchis ivre et en colère

Il pleurait et donnait des coups de pied et était fou et menaçait de nous tuer

Alors le lendemain matin, nous sommes retournés sur la tombe de Christopher

Le même cimetière où lui et moi avions l'habitude de boire du Bud Light toute la journée

Mais ma vie a continué et j'ai acheté tous les albums de Yes

Ouais, même la poubelle découpée à quatre-vingt-dix-neuf cents Tormato

Et j'ai vu Yes dans l'Ohio, puis au Warfield à San Francisco

Et Jon Anderson avait tellement d'énergie qu'il sautait partout et frappait chaque note

Mais quand nous sommes rentrés à la maison, ma petite amie a appris que c'était un autre gars qu'ils avaient trouvé sur

YouTube de l'Ontario

Nous étions assez loin en arrière, ce qui vous montre ce que je sais

Des années plus tard, j'ai reçu un appel du réalisateur Paolo Sorrentino

Il a adoré la chanson « Onward », il a dit que c'était une grande ballade américaine et j'ai dit

"Non, c'est de Chris Squire" et haussa les épaules comme n'importe quoi et tira sur son cigare

Et il m'a emmené en Suisse et il m'a filmé en train de jouer la chanson toute la journée

Moi chantant "Onward" avec quelques figurants et Michael Caine sur une pelouse

Et pour tous ceux qui ne l'ont pas entendu, faites-moi confiance "En avant"

est une grande chanson d'amour

J'ai enfin pu voir le film de Paolo lors d'un jour de congé à Milan

Le thème principal de la bande originale était cette vieille chanson d'amour rêveuse

Le film a été doublé en italien et Steve Shelley s'est endormi

Mais Dieu merci pour "Onward" car ils ont coupé toutes mes autres scènes

Je pense à John Paul Jones et John Entwistle et aux grands bassistes de

ce temps

Mais le gars qui a traversé comme aucun autre gars était le gars qui a joué son Rick

avec un médiator, Chris Squire

Et je me suis allongé dans mon lit et j'ai pensé à ces vieux albums

Près du bord et Relayer et Going for the One and Fragile

Le dernier Yes jamais fait était Ciel et Terre

Si le paradis est réel, alors personne n'y appartient plus que Chris Squire et ma longue
