Walking on the road

To Jerusalem

The time had come to sacrifice

Again

My two small sons

They walked beside me on the road

The reason that they came

Was to watch the lamb

«Daddy Daddy

What will we see there?

There’s so much that we don’t understand»

So I told them of Moses

And Father Abraham

And then I said dear children

«Watch the Lamb»

There will be so many

In Jerusalem today

We must be sure the lamb

Doesn’t run away"

And I told them of Moses

And Father Abraham

And I said «Dear children

Watch the lamb»

When we reached the city

I knew something must be wrong

There were no joyful worshippers

No joyful worship songs

I stood there

With my children

In the midst of angry men

Then I heard the crowd cry out

«Crucify Him!»

We tried to leave the city

But we could not get away

Forced to play in this drama

A part I did not wish to play

Why upon this day were men condemned to die?

Why were we all standing here

When soon they would pass by?

I looked and said

«Even now they come,»

The first one pleaded for mercy

The people gave him none

The second one was violent

He was arrogant and loud

I can still hear his angry voice

Screaming at the crowd

Then someone said

«There's Jesus,»

I scarce believed my eyes

A man so badly beaten

He barely looked alive

Blood poured from His body

From the thorns on His brow

Running down the cross

And falling to the ground

I watched as He struggled

I watched Him as He fell

The cross came down upon His back

And the crowd began to yell

In that moment I felt such agony

In that moment I felt such loss

Till the roman soldier grabbed my arm and screamed

«YOU!

Carry his cross!»

At first I tried to resist him

But his hand reached for his sword

So I knelt and I took

The cross from the Lord

I put it on my shoulders

And started down the street

The blood that He’d been shedding

Was running down my cheek

They led us to Golgatha

They drove nails

Deep in His feet and hands

And on the cross

I heard him pray

«Father, forgive them…»

Never have I seen such love

In any other eyes

«Into thy hands I commit my spirit,»

He prayed

And then He died

I stood for what seemed like years

I lost all sense of time

Until I felt two tiny hands

Holding tight to mine

My children stood there weeping

And I heard the oldest say

«Father please forgive us

The lamb

Ran away

Daddy Daddy

What’ve we seen here

There’s so much that we don’t understand,"

So I took them in my arms

We turned and faced the cross

And I said

«Dear children

Watch the Lamb»

Marcher sur la route

Le temps était venu de se sacrifier

Mes deux petits fils

Nous devons être sûrs que l'agneau

Ne s'enfuit pas"

Quand nous sommes arrivés en ville

Je savais que quelque chose n'allait pas

Il n'y avait pas d'adorateurs joyeux

Pas de chants d'adoration joyeux

J'étais là

Avec mes enfants

Au milieu d'hommes en colère

Puis j'ai entendu la foule crier

«Crucifie-le!»

Nous avons essayé de quitter la ville

Mais nous ne pouvions pas nous en sortir

Forcé de jouer dans ce drame

Un rôle que je ne souhaitais pas jouer

Pourquoi, ce jour-là, les hommes ont-ils été condamnés à mourir ?

Pourquoi étions-nous tous debout ici

Quand passeraient-ils bientôt ?

J'ai regardé et j'ai dit

«Même maintenant, ils viennent»,

Le premier a plaidé pour la miséricorde

Le peuple ne lui en a rien donné

Le deuxième était violent

Il était arrogant et bruyant

Je peux encore entendre sa voix en colère

Crier à la foule

Puis quelqu'un a dit

"Voilà Jésus"

J'en ai à peine cru mes yeux

Un homme si sévèrement battu

Il avait à peine l'air vivant

Le sang a coulé de son corps

Des épines sur son front

Courir sur la croix

Et tomber au sol

J'ai regardé qu'il luttait

Je l'ai regardé alors qu'il tombait

La croix est descendue sur son dos

Et la foule a commencé à crier

À ce moment-là, j'ai ressenti une telle agonie

Jusqu'à ce que le soldat romain attrape mon bras et crie

"TU!

Porte sa croix !"

Au début, j'ai essayé de lui résister

Mais sa main tendit vers son épée

Alors je me suis agenouillé et j'ai pris

La croix du Seigneur

Je le mets sur mes épaules

Et a commencé dans la rue

Le sang qu'il avait versé

Coulait sur ma joue

Ils nous ont conduit à Golgatha

Ils ont planté des clous

Au fond de ses pieds et de ses mains

"Père, pardonne-leur..."

"Je remets mon esprit entre tes mains",

Il a prié

Et puis il est mort

Je suis resté debout pendant ce qui m'a semblé être des années

J'ai perdu toute notion du temps

Jusqu'à ce que je sente deux petites mains

Tenant fermement au mien

Mes enfants sont restés là en pleurant

Et j'ai entendu le plus vieux dire

« Père, s'il te plaît, pardonne-nous

L'agneau

S'est enfui

Papa Papa

Qu'avons-nous vu ici ?

Il y a tellement de choses que nous ne comprenons pas",

Alors je les ai pris dans mes bras

Nous nous sommes tournés et avons fait face à la croix

Et j'ai dit

«Chers enfants

Veiller à l'Agneau»
