For the good ship Ragamuffin is lying at the Quay

For to take poor Pat with a shovel on his back

To the shores of Botany Bay

Well I’m on my way down to the quay where the ship at anchor lays

To command a gang of navys that I was told to engage

I stopped in for to drink awhile before I go away

For to take a trip on an emigrant ship to the shores of Botany Bay

Well the boss came up this morning, and he said «Well now Pat you know

If you didn’t get those navvys out I’m afraid you’ll have to go»

So I asked him for my wages and demanded all my pay

And I told him straight, I’m gonna emigrate to the shores of Botany Bay

And when I reach Australia I’ll go and search for gold

There’s plenty there for a’digging, or so I have been told

Or else I’ll go back to my trade and a hundred bricks I’ll lay

Because I live for an eight hour shift on the shores of Botany Bay

Adieu vos passerelles et vos passerelles

Et au diable vos heures supplémentaires

Car le bon navire Ragamuffin repose au quai

Pour prendre le pauvre Pat avec une pelle sur le dos

Jusqu'aux rives de Botany Bay

Eh bien, je suis en train de descendre vers le quai où le navire est à l'ancre

Pour commander un gang de marines qu'on m'a dit d'engager

Je me suis arrêté pour boire un peu avant de partir

Pour faire un voyage sur un bateau d'émigrants vers les rives de Botany Bay

Eh bien, le patron est venu ce matin, et il a dit : "Eh bien, maintenant, Pat, tu sais

Si vous n'avez pas sorti ces terrassiers, j'ai bien peur que vous deviez y aller »

Alors je lui ai demandé mon salaire et j'ai exigé tout mon salaire

Et je lui ai dit tout de suite, je vais émigrer sur les rives de Botany Bay

Et quand j'atteindrai l'Australie, j'irai chercher de l'or

Il y a beaucoup de choses à creuser, ou c'est ce qu'on m'a dit

Ou bien je retournerai à mon métier et je poserai cent briques

Parce que je vis huit heures sur les rives de Botany Bay
