He was small and he was hungry

He had so many words to say

He came in from off the corner

Where some man told him to stay.

His head hung down, his eyes was driftin'

But they saw everything so clear

He was cool and he didn’t have nuthin'

Never showed a sign of fear.

He didn’t talk to very many

He mostly kept to his self

He was shy and pretty funny

Stayed awhile and then he left.

A few days past is when I saw him

He’d nod to me and I would smile

I think he asked me, «Whoa, Mike, what’s happenin' «I said, «Set down and talk awhile.»

Well he set down and he started rappin'

Everything he said, those words was true

He told of people and the madness

Of the fools and the things they do.

He said:

Some men have lived and learned through living

Some men have learned by seein' true

You cannot judge from what they’re sayin'

It’s real clear from what they do.

He got up, said he felt silly

Said he’d been talkin' a little to long

He did not know his own self truly

Said his right could be my wrong.

I didn’t see him till way, way later

It was all different and he’d not changed

He was small and he looked hungry

I was tired and it’s all so strange.

Il n'a pas parlé à beaucoup

Il est principalement resté seul

Il était timide et assez drôle

Il est resté un moment, puis il est parti.

Il y a quelques jours, je l'ai vu

Il me faisait un signe de tête et je souriais

Je pense qu'il m'a demandé : "Whoa, Mike, que se passe-t-il ?" J'ai dit : "Asseyez-vous et parlez un peu."

Eh bien, il s'est assis et il a commencé à rapper

Tout ce qu'il a dit, ces mots étaient vrais

Il a parlé des gens et de la folie

Des imbéciles et des choses qu'ils font.

Il a dit:

Certains hommes ont vécu et appris en vivant

Certains hommes ont appris en voyant vrai

Vous ne pouvez pas juger d'après ce qu'ils disent

C'est très clair d'après ce qu'ils font.

Il s'est levé, a dit qu'il se sentait idiot

Il a dit qu'il parlait un peu trop longtemps

Il ne se connaissait pas vraiment

Il a dit que son droit pouvait être mon tort.

Je ne l'ai vu que bien, bien plus tard

Tout était différent et il n'avait pas changé

Il était petit et il avait l'air affamé

J'étais fatigué et tout est si étrange.
