Once I prayed, I knew not what I said

The hideous sight which now, I shudder to behold

Now I pray, I know that prayer is right

Show me Thyself, oh Lord, be to myself the Bright

And Morning Star to shine upon the grave of self

And lead my heart from earth afar, from earth afar

Montre-moi moi-même, oh Seigneur, hélas je ne redoutais pas

Le spectacle hideux que maintenant, je frémis de contempler

Parce que je ne savais pas être juste

Et j'ai été amené à répondre à ma prière

Comme étape par étape pour voir mon cœur misérable mis à nu

Puis j'ai prié : reste, Seigneur, je ne peux pas supporter la vue

Et par pitié sa main était arrêtée, sa main était arrêtée

Maintenant je prie, je sais que la prière est juste

Montre-moi toi-même, oh Seigneur, sois pour moi le brillant

Et l'étoile du matin pour briller sur la tombe de soi
