Pilgrim's Progress - Procol Harum

I sat me down to write a simple story

which maybe in the end became a song

In trying to find the words which might begin it I found these were the thoughts I brought along

At first I took my weight to be an anchor

and gathered up my fears to guide me round

but then I clearly saw my own delusion

and found my struggles further bogged me down

In starting out I thought to go exploring

and set my foot upon the nearest road

In vain I looked to find the promised turning

but only saw how far I was from home

In searching I forsook the paths of learning

and sought instead to find some pirate’s gold

In fighting I did hurt those dearest to me and still no hidden truths could I unfold

Je me suis assis pour écrire une histoire simple

qui peut-être à la fin est devenue une chanson

En essayant de trouver les mots qui pourraient le commencer, j'ai découvert que ce sont les pensées que j'ai apportées

Au début, j'ai pris mon poids pour être une ancre

et a rassemblé mes peurs pour me guider

mais ensuite j'ai clairement vu ma propre illusion

et j'ai trouvé que mes luttes m'enlisaient davantage

Au début, j'ai pensé explorer

et mis mon pied sur la route la plus proche

En vain j'ai cherché à trouver le tournant promis

mais j'ai seulement vu à quelle distance j'étais de chez moi

En cherchant, j'ai abandonné les chemins de l'apprentissage

et a plutôt cherché à trouver de l'or de pirate

En me battant, j'ai blessé ceux qui m'étaient les plus chers et je n'ai toujours pas pu révéler de vérités cachées
