Simultaneous - Puscifer

So, the first time I saw him was at the annual city festival,

at the end of the plaza, on, uh, «Punker Hill», also known as

«The Island of Misfits».

Um, It’s like a mound of black leather

and army surplus jackets and boots and spiky egg-white hairdos

and mohawks and second generation Exploited and Minor

Threat and Sex Pistols patches and stuff.

Basically a haven

for the misunderstood punk-y, rock-y, goth-y, what was «me"types

And, uh, there he was, right in the middle of it all.

Um, oversized yellow form-rubber cowboy hat;

pink

plastic Toys-R-Us pistols and holster.

Off-white dashiki,

uh, shirt, and tattered bell bottom jeans, leather feet,

Raleigh cigarette finger stains.

And he was an island within an island,

and I just, kinda had to know more

So, I, uhh, I sat with him for hours just trying to get a bearing

on his beautiful insanity.

Every third inquiry was met with, you know,

an eloquent but unusual response, and, you know, the subsequent

exchange, it kinda warranted continuing the conversation,

because he was, he was interesting.

Uh, 'course the other,

the other reason my efforts where dismissed, while he took in the

constant flow of the festival crowd, all around us

A raging river of multi cultural river of music, art, food,

families, uh, all of this with his Walkman at full volume.

I think it was Foreigner, playing through the headphones.

And I asked maybe, you know «Hey maybe you could turn that down,

so we can talk?», and he replied «Can you hear me»?

and I said

«Yes», he said «Well, then it’s fine».

He never really pretended,

not once, to be able to organize all of this chaos that was going

on around us.

Uh, he just unapologetically chose which pieces to focus on

Well, you know, after a few hours we seemed to have found our stride,

found our rhythm, kinda settled into it, and we’re having these

intermittent conversations, uh, flipping back and forth between

the chaos and the focus.

And then, just kinda out of no where,

he seemed to become a little unsettled and disturbed.

And I asked him what was wrong and he just blurted out «Keynote,

parents and syrup», and then he looked at me like I wondered what that

means, and then he said, «You have any, do you have any batteries?»

So Basically his, his walkman was running out of power,

and he just needed batteries, so before I could ever turn and

ask one of our fellow punkers for some double-A's,

he grabbed my face with both hands, and then for the

first time in the entire conversation, he, gave me his complete

focus and attention, completely present, and calmly said

«We will never know world peace, until three people can

simultaneously look each other straight in the eye»

Donc, la première fois que je l'ai vu, c'était au festival annuel de la ville,

au bout de la place, sur, euh, "Punker Hill", également connu sous le nom

« L'île des inadaptés ».

Hum, c'est comme un tas de cuir noir

et des vestes et des bottes en surplus de l'armée et des coiffures hérissées de blanc d'œuf

et mohawks et exploités et mineurs de deuxième génération

Patchs et trucs Threat et Sex Pistols.

Fondamentalement, un havre de paix

pour les incompris punk-y, rock-y, goth-y, ce qui était du genre "moi"

Et, euh, il était là, en plein milieu de tout ça.

Euh, un chapeau de cow-boy jaune surdimensionné en caoutchouc ;

rose

pistolets et étui en plastique Toys-R-Us.

Dashiki blanc cassé,

euh, chemise et jeans à pattes d'eph en lambeaux, pieds en cuir,

Taches de doigts de cigarette Raleigh.

Et il était une île dans une île,

et je devais juste, en quelque sorte, en savoir plus

Alors, je, euh, je me suis assis avec lui pendant des heures juste pour essayer de comprendre

sur sa belle folie.

Une enquête sur trois a été reçue, vous savez,

une réponse éloquente mais inhabituelle, et, vous savez, la suite

échange, cela méritait en quelque sorte de poursuivre la conversation,

parce qu'il était, il était intéressant.

Euh, 'bien sûr l'autre,

l'autre raison pour laquelle mes efforts ont été rejetés, alors qu'il reprenait le

flux constant de la foule du festival, tout autour de nous

Une rivière déchaînée de rivière multiculturelle de musique, d'art, de nourriture,

familles, euh, tout cela avec son baladeur à plein volume.

Je pense que c'était Foreigner, jouant dans les écouteurs.

Et j'ai demandé peut-être, tu sais "Hé, peut-être que tu pourrais refuser ça,

alors on peut parler ?", et il répond "M'entends-tu ?" ?

et j'ai dit

« Oui », a-t-il dit « Eh bien, alors ça va ».

Il n'a jamais vraiment fait semblant,

pas une seule fois, pour pouvoir organiser tout ce chaos qui se déroulait

autour de nous.

Euh, il a juste choisi sans vergogne les pièces sur lesquelles se concentrer

Eh bien, vous savez, après quelques heures, nous semblons avoir trouvé notre rythme,

trouvé notre rythme, un peu installé, et nous avons ces

conversations intermittentes, euh, alternant entre

le chaos et la concentration.

Et puis, juste un peu sorti de nulle part,

il semblait devenir un peu instable et perturbé.

Et je lui ai demandé ce qui n'allait pas et il lâcha simplement " Keynote,

parents et sirop », puis il m'a regardé comme si je me demandais ce que c'était

signifie, puis il a dit : "Vous en avez, avez-vous des piles ?"

Donc, en gros, son baladeur était à court d'énergie,

et il avait juste besoin de piles, donc avant que je puisse tourner et

demandez à l'un de nos collègues punkers des doubles A,

il m'a saisi le visage à deux mains, puis pour le

première fois de toute la conversation, il m'a donné son

concentration et attention, complètement présent, et dit calmement

« Nous ne connaîtrons jamais la paix dans le monde, jusqu'à ce que trois personnes puissent

se regarder simultanément droit dans les yeux »
