I camped one night in an empty hut

On the side of a lonely hill

I didn’t go much on empty huts

But the night was awful chill

So I boiled me billy and had me tea

And made sure that the door was shut

Then I went to sleep in the empty bunk

By the wall of the old slab shed

Now it must have been in the middle of the night

When I was feeling cosy and warm

I woke and there at the foot of my bunk

I see a horrible ghostly form

It seemed in shape to be half an ape

With a head like a chimpanzee

And I wondered what it was doing there

And what did it want with me?

You may say if you please that I had DTs

Or call me a crimson liar

But I wish you had seen it as plain as me

With it’s eyes like coals of fire

Then it gave a groan such a horrible moan

That my blood run cold with fear

And ‘There's only the two of us here, '

It said.

‘There's only the two of us here!'

I kept one eye on the old hut door

And one on the awful brute;

For I only wanted to dress meself

And get to the door and scoot

But I couldn’t find where I’d left me boots

So I hadn’t a chance to clear

And, ‘There's only the two of us here, '

It said.

I hadn’t a thing to defend meself

Couldn’t find a stick nor a stone

And ‘There's only the two of here!'

It said, again with a horrible moan

I thought I’d better make some reply

For I thought that the end was near

I said «Tarzan old man when I find my boots

By hell there’ll only be one of us here.'

Well I get my hands on me number tens

And out through the door I scoots

And I lit the whole of the ridges up

With the sparks from me blucher boots

So I’ve never slept in a hut since then

And I tremble and shake with fear

When I think of the horrible brute that moaned

‘There's only the two of us here!'

J'ai campé une nuit dans une cabane vide

Sur le flanc d'une colline solitaire

Je ne suis pas beaucoup allé sur des cabanes vides

Mais la nuit était terriblement froide

Alors je m'ai bouilli billy et m'a fait du thé

Et s'est assuré que la porte était fermée

Puis je suis allé dormir dans la couchette vide

Par le mur de l'ancien hangar en dalles

Maintenant, ça devait être au milieu de la nuit

Quand je me sentais confortable et chaleureux

Je me suis réveillé et là au pied de ma couchette

Je vois une horrible forme fantomatique

Il semblait en forme d'être un demi-singe

Avec une tête comme un chimpanzé

Et je me suis demandé ce qu'il faisait là

Et qu'est-ce qu'il me voulait ?

Vous pouvez dire s'il vous plaît que j'ai eu des DT

Ou traitez-moi de menteur cramoisi

Mais j'aurais aimé que tu l'aies vu aussi clairement que moi

Avec ses yeux comme des charbons ardents

Puis il a donné un gémissement un gémissement si horrible

Que mon sang se glace de peur

Et 'Il n'y a que nous deux ici'

Ça disait.

"Il n'y a que nous deux ici !"

J'ai gardé un œil sur la vieille porte de la cabane

Et un sur l'horrible brute ;

Car je voulais seulement m'habiller

Et aller à la porte et filer

Mais je ne pouvais pas trouver où j'avais laissé mes bottes

Je n'ai donc pas eu la possibilité d'effacer

Et, 'Il n'y a que nous deux ici,'

Ça disait.

"Il n'y a que nous deux ici !"

Je n'avais rien pour me défendre

Impossible de trouver un bâton ni une pierre

Et "Il n'y a que les deux ici !"

Il a dit, encore une fois avec un horrible gémissement

J'ai pensé que je ferais mieux de répondre

Car je pensais que la fin était proche

J'ai dit "Tarzan vieil homme quand j'ai trouvé mes bottes

Par l'enfer, il n'y aura qu'un de nous ici. '

Eh bien, je mets la main sur mon numéro de dizaines

Et à travers la porte je file

Et j'ai éclairé l'ensemble des crêtes

Avec les étincelles de mes bottes blucher

Donc je n'ai jamais dormi dans une cabane depuis

Et je tremble et tremble de peur

Quand je pense à l'horrible brute qui gémissait

"Il n'y a que nous deux ici !"
