Rattler was a good old dog as blind as he could be

But every night at suppertime I believe that dog could see

Rattler breaked the other night I thought he treed a coon

When I come to find him he’s barkin' at the moon

Rattler was a friendly dog even though he was blind

He wouldn’t hurt a living thing he was so very kind

One night I saw a big fat coon climb into a tree

I called Ol' Rattler right away to fetch him down for me

But Rattler wouldn’t fetch for me because he liked that coon

I saw them walking paw in paw later by the light of the moon

Grandpa had a muley cow muley since she was born

It took a jaybird forty years to fly from horn to horn

Now old Rattler’s dead and gone like all the good dogs do

Don’t put on the dog yourself or you’ll be going there too

Rattler s'est cassé l'autre nuit, je pensais qu'il avait un raton laveur

Quand je viens le trouver, il aboie à la lune

Rattler était un chien amical même s'il était aveugle

Il ne ferait de mal à personne, il était si gentil

Une nuit, j'ai vu un gros raton laveur grimper dans un arbre

J'ai tout de suite appelé Ol' Rattler pour qu'il vienne me chercher

Mais Rattler ne me chercherait pas parce qu'il aimait ce coon

Je les ai vus marcher patte dans patte plus tard à la lumière de la lune

Grand-père avait un muley de vache muley depuis sa naissance

Il a fallu quarante ans à un geai pour voler de corne en corne

Maintenant le vieux Rattler est mort et parti comme tous les bons chiens le font
