Herumor - Summoning

From every depth of good and ill

The mystery which binds me still:

From the torrent, or the fountain

From the red cliff of the mountain

From the sun that round me rolled

In its autumn tint of gold

From the lightning in the sky

As it passed me flying by

From the thunder and the storm

And the cloud that took the form

From the same source I have not taken

My sorrow;

I could not awaken

My heart to joy at the same tone;

And all I loved, I loved alone

On the brink of the abyss

With a blindfold tied tight

Should I step into the mist

Or retreat back to the light?

I don’t know what is in there

Whether it be ground or a fall

I don’t know if I shall dare

To take the step and risk it all…

De toutes les profondeurs du bien et du mal

Le mystère qui me lie encore :

Du torrent ou de la fontaine

De la falaise rouge de la montagne

Du soleil qui m'entourait

Dans sa teinte automnale d'or

De la foudre dans le ciel

Alors qu'il m'a dépassé en volant

Du tonnerre et de la tempête

Et le nuage qui a pris la forme

De la même source, je n'ai pas pris

Ma peine;

je n'ai pas pu me réveiller

Mon cœur se réjouit du même ton ;

Et tous ce que j'ai aimé, j'ai aimé seul

Au bord du gouffre

Avec un bandeau bien attaché

Dois-je entrer dans la brume

Ou revenir à la lumière ?

Je ne sais pas ce qu'il y a dedans

Qu'il s'agisse d'un sol ou d'une chute

Je ne sais pas si j'oserai

Pour franchir le pas et tout risquer…
