The Last Waltz Suite: The Well - The Band

I took my bucket down to the well

There’s a (desert?) woman, sweet mystery

She let the rope fall down in the well

Like it was meant to be

She put the jug upon her head

Walked with her back to the wind

I followed her tracks the moment she said

«Why don’t you come in?»

She killed the light, she dropped her glove

She said «Are you looking for trouble

Or looking for love, love, love?»

I woke in the morning dying of thirst

Headed straight back to the well

There she was with a jug on her head

The rope had just fell

The well in her eyes was deep and black

With no question or answer

She wiped my brow and I followed her back

To the Tropic of Cancer

J'ai descendu mon seau au puits

Il y a une femme (du désert ?), doux mystère

Elle a laissé tomber la corde dans le puits

Comme si c'était censé être

Elle a mis la cruche sur sa tête

J'ai marché dos au vent

J'ai suivi ses traces au moment où elle a dit

« Pourquoi n'entrez-vous pas ? »

Elle a tué la lumière, elle a laissé tomber son gant

Elle a dit "Cherchez-vous des ennuis

Ou chercher l'amour, l'amour, l'amour ? »

Je me suis réveillé le matin en mourant de soif

Je suis retourné directement au puits

Elle était là avec une cruche sur la tête

La corde venait de tomber

Le puits dans ses yeux était profond et noir

Sans question ni réponse

Elle a essuyé mon front et je l'ai suivie en retour
