The GOOD NEWS!

That this is a beautiful and dangerous and mysterious world we live in!

That there’s a lot we don’t know!

A lot we may NEVER know!

There may be a heaven!

There may be a hell!

There may be a devil!

There may be a GOD!

But there ain’t no PROOF.

No hard-core science!

No Road Map of the Stars to the Pearly Gates!

No interview with Gabriel in Hot Archangels Monthly!

We’ve got to take it all on faith!

And that’s a little difficult for some of us!

You hear about free will!

You hear about making your own choice!

And you’d like just a little bit o' proof.

And at some point, you realize there may not be no proof a-comin'.

And at that point, you realize

There may NOT be a heaven!

There may NOT be a hell!

There may NOT be a Devil!

There may NOT BE A GOD!

And you say to yourself, well, what am I doin' here?

If there ain’t a god, what am I doin' here?

What is my purpose in life?

And I am here to tell you that your purpose in life

Is EXACTLY THE SAME either way!

If there’s a God, your purpose is to LIVE!

To help people!

To make the world a better place!

And if there’s NOT a God…

Your purpose is to LIVE!

To help people!

To make the world a better place!

Now, I know that some of you out there want there to be a God

for a very different reason.

Because you feel alone.

Because without God, it’s a big, bad, scary, random universe out there.

Let me tell you right now,

it’s a big, bad, scary, random universe out there WITH God!

Bad stuff happens.

Good stuff happens.

Stuff happens!

If it doesn’t happen, you’re DEAD!

But here’s the important part:

You are not alone.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

You’ve got a family of SIX BILLION right here with you.

You think they don’t know your troubles?

You think they don’t know your heart?

They know yours as well as they know their own.

You think the world ain’t a scary place for them?

It’s a scary place for everybody!

But it’s also a fantastically beautiful place!

And it’s the only place we know for sure we’ve got.

So it is our DUTY, our PURPOSE IN LIFE, our REASON TO BE,

to make this the BEST OF ALL POSSIBLE WORLDS!

Lemme tell ya!

God made the world, so they say,

And he did it in only seven days,

But they can’t tell you if those days were short… or… long,

And they think their God is threatened if the dates… are… wrong.

God made Adam, God made Eve,

Kicked 'em out of Eden 'cause they were deceived (hiss that snake),

They had children, one was good… one… scum,

Cain killed Abel, then got married -- where’d his wife… come… from?

There’s all those little problems where the story doesn’t jibe,

If God created all of us, why single out one tribe?

Why weren’t there any dinosaurs on Noah’s floating zoo?

Why tell us all these fairy tales when we’ve got stuff to do?

We’ve got the world (we've got the world), the here and now (the here and now),

Things happen, it’s only natural to ask how (ask… how)

But there’s no reason to trust mytho… lo… gy,

The world right here and now’s enough for me.

God made Commandments, God made rules,

God said «to build a better life, these are the tools»,

He said the first four… are to wor… ship… me,

If you don’t, you will be tortured for eter… ni… ty.

But what if this world is all there is,

What if, when you die, there ain’t no final quiz,

No hell or heaven?

Well, that’s all right… with… me…

We’ll make it heaven here on earth, just wait… and… see.

Why punish us forever for an arbitrary rule?

Why set us up for failure?

Does God have to be so cruel?

Why give us all these instincts for committing mortal sins?

Why give us all these ways to lose before the game begins?

We’ve got the world (we've got the world), the here and now (the here and now),

There may be nothing, al-Akhirah, or the Tao (eternal Tao)

But I’ve got present responsibi… li… ty,

The world right here and now’s enough for me.

There may be God, and there may not

The world we’re livin' in might just be all we’ve got

That ain’t no problem, 'cause, whether spawned… or… made,

The only way to live is not to be… a… fraid.

We’ve got our minds, we’ve got our hearts,

We’ve got our souls and they’re the most important parts,

We don’t need threatenin' to tell what’s right… from… wrong

Just mind your business, clean things up, and get a… long.

The world is filled with wonderment and beauty near and far,

And trying to understand it is just being who we are,

If there’s a God, he told us that the world he made was ours,

We’re almost done exploring here, the next stop is the stars.

And we’re gonna reach the heavens somehow (some… how)

It’s up to us to fulfill our des… ti… ny,

Que c'est un monde magnifique, dangereux et mystérieux dans lequel nous vivons !

Qu'il y a beaucoup de choses que nous ne savons pas !

Beaucoup de choses que nous ne saurons peut-être JAMAIS !

Il y a peut-être un paradis !

Il y a peut-être un enfer !

Il y a peut-être un diable !

Il y a peut-être un DIEU !

Mais il n'y a pas de PREUVE.

Pas de science fondamentale !

Pas de feuille de route des étoiles aux portes nacrées !

Pas d'interview avec Gabriel dans Hot Archanges Monthly !

Nous devons tout prendre sur la foi !

Et c'est un peu difficile pour certains d'entre nous !

Vous entendez parler de libre arbitre !

Vous entendez parler de faire votre propre choix!

Et vous aimeriez juste un peu de preuve.

Et à un moment donné, vous réalisez qu'il n'y a peut-être aucune preuve à venir.

Et à ce moment-là, vous vous rendez compte

Il n'y a peut-être PAS de paradis !

Il n'y a peut-être PAS d'enfer !

Il n'y a peut-être PAS de diable !

Il n'y a peut-être PAS DE DIEU !

Et vous vous dites, eh bien, qu'est-ce que je fais ici ?

S'il n'y a pas de dieu, qu'est-ce que je fais ici ?

Quel est mon but dans la vie ?

Et je suis ici pour vous dire que votre but dans la vie

Est EXACTEMENT LE MÊME de toute façon !

S'il existe un Dieu, votre but est de VIVRE !

Pour aider les gens!

Pour rendre le monde meilleur !

Et s'il n'y a PAS de Dieu...

Votre but est de VIVRE !

Pour aider les gens!

Pour rendre le monde meilleur !

Maintenant, je sais que certains d'entre vous veulent qu'il y ait un Dieu

pour une raison très différente.

Parce que tu te sens seul.

Parce que sans Dieu, c'est un univers grand, mauvais, effrayant et aléatoire.

Laissez-moi vous dire tout de suite,

c'est un univers grand, mauvais, effrayant et aléatoire avec Dieu !

De mauvaises choses arrivent.

De bonnes choses arrivent.

Des choses arrivent!

Si cela ne se produit pas, vous êtes MORT !

Mais voici la partie importante :

Tu n'es pas seul.

TU N'ES PAS SEUL!

Vous avez une famille de SIX MILLIARDS ici avec vous.

Vous pensez qu'ils ne connaissent pas vos problèmes?

Vous pensez qu'ils ne connaissent pas votre cœur?

Ils connaissent le vôtre aussi bien qu'ils connaissent le leur.

Vous pensez que le monde n'est pas un endroit effrayant pour eux ?

C'est un endroit effrayant pour tout le monde !

Mais c'est aussi un endroit incroyablement beau !

Et c'est le seul endroit dont nous sommes sûrs d'avoir.

C'est donc notre DEVOIR, notre BUT DANS LA VIE, notre RAISON D'ÊTRE,

pour en faire le MEILLEUR DE TOUS LES MONDES POSSIBLES !

Laisse-moi te dire !

Dieu a créé le monde, dit-on,

Et il l'a fait en seulement sept jours,

Mais ils ne peuvent pas vous dire si ces jours ont été courts… ou… longs,

Et ils pensent que leur Dieu est menacé si les dates… sont… erronées.

Dieu a fait Adam, Dieu a fait Eve,

Je les ai chassés d'Eden parce qu'ils ont été trompés (siffle ce serpent),

Ils avaient des enfants, l'un était bon... l'un... racaille,

Caïn a tué Abel, puis s'est marié - d'où venait sa femme... ?

Il y a tous ces petits problèmes où l'histoire ne colle pas,

Si Dieu nous a tous créés, pourquoi choisir une seule tribu ?

Pourquoi n'y avait-il pas de dinosaures dans le zoo flottant de Noah ?

Pourquoi nous raconter tous ces contes de fées alors que nous avons des choses à faire ?

Nous avons le monde (nous avons le monde), l'ici et maintenant (l'ici et maintenant),

Les choses arrivent, il est naturel de demander comment (demander… comment)

Mais il n'y a aucune raison de faire confiance à la mytho… lo… gie,

Le monde ici et maintenant me suffit.

Dieu a fait des commandements, Dieu a fait des règles,

Dieu a dit "pour construire une vie meilleure, ce sont les outils",

Il a dit que les quatre premiers… sont pour vénérer… moi,

Si vous ne le faites pas, vous serez torturé pendant une éternité… ni… té.

Et si ce monde était tout ce qu'il y a,

Et si, à ta mort, il n'y avait pas de quiz final,

Pas d'enfer ou de paradis ?

Eh bien, ça va... avec... moi...

Nous allons en faire le paradis ici sur terre, attendez simplement… et… voyez.

Pourquoi nous punir à jamais pour une règle arbitraire ?

Pourquoi nous exposer à l'échec ?

Dieu doit-il être si cruel ?

Pourquoi nous donner tous ces instincts pour commettre des péchés mortels ?

Pourquoi nous donner toutes ces façons de perdre avant que le jeu ne commence ?

Nous avons le monde (nous avons le monde), l'ici et maintenant (l'ici et maintenant),

Il n'y a peut-être rien, al-Akhirah ou le Tao (Tao éternel)

Mais j'ai la responsabi… lité actuelle,

Le monde ici et maintenant me suffit.

Nous avons le monde (nous avons le monde), l'ici et maintenant (l'ici et maintenant),

Et tu sais que nous allons y arriver d'une manière ou d'une autre (certains… comment)

Mais je ne compte pas sur eter... ni... ty,

Le monde ici et maintenant me suffit.

Il peut y avoir Dieu, et il peut ne pas y en avoir

Le monde dans lequel nous vivons est peut-être tout ce que nous avons

Ce n'est pas un problème, parce que, qu'il soit engendré... ou... fabriqué,

La seule façon de vivre est de ne pas être ... un... peur.

Nous avons nos esprits, nous avons nos cœurs,

Nous avons nos âmes et ce sont les parties les plus importantes,

Nous n'avons pas besoin de menacer pour dire ce qui est bien… de… mal

Occupez-vous de vos affaires, nettoyez les choses et obtenez un… long.

Le monde est rempli d'émerveillement et de beauté proche et lointain,

Et essayer de le comprendre, c'est simplement être qui nous sommes,

S'il y a un Dieu, il nous a dit que le monde qu'il a créé était le nôtre,

Nous avons presque fini d'explorer ici, la prochaine étape est les étoiles.

Nous avons le monde (nous avons le monde), l'ici et maintenant (l'ici et maintenant),

Et nous allons atteindre les cieux d'une manière ou d'une autre (certains… comment)

C'est à nous d'accomplir notre destin… ti… ny,

Le monde ici et maintenant me suffit (assez pour moi).

Et tu sais que nous allons y arriver d'une manière ou d'une autre (certains… comment)

Trouvez Dieu en vous -- le reste vient naturellement,
