The slaps keep coming

For the rest of your life

I weathered out those anxious years

Of boom and slump

In a tree and a tunnel and a tent

And a truck by a garbage dump

My life was like a motorway

My wheels were square

Sometimes I wonder How I got anywhere

Every crank, poet, genius

Pressured off the devious

Tied to the coat-tails

Speeding down the monorail …

Only one flavour!

I woke up and I was driving

There was blood on my hands

I felt like a stranger

In an over-familiar land

Well, we all fall to the centre

But my eyes are full of stars

Sometimes I wonder

How I ever got this far

J'ai surmonté ces années anxieuses

De boom et d'effondrement

Dans un arbre et un tunnel et une tente

Et un camion près d'un dépotoir

Ma vie était comme une autoroute

Mes roues étaient carrées

Parfois je me demande comment j'ai pu aller n'importe où

Chaque manivelle, poète, génie

Fait pression sur les sournois

Attaché aux pans de manteau

Dévaler le monorail à grande vitesse…

Une seule saveur !

Je me suis réveillé et je conduisais

Il y avait du sang sur mes mains

Je me sentais comme un étranger

Dans un pays trop familier

Eh bien, nous tombons tous au centre

Mais mes yeux sont pleins d'étoiles

Des fois je me demande

Comment j'ai pu aller aussi loin
