So I stood on the edge of my world

At a place where the sky meets the sea

But my haven was a cauldron of bile

For the sea was bewitched and defiled

There’s a passage leads down to the shore

There’s a step for each day of the year

They are ancient but they’ve stood the test of time

Those who venture need have little to fear

So I stood on the old harbor wall

As some black headed gulls reeled then stalled

It was winter and the gulls heads had turned white

Like so many spellbound ermine blessed with flight

Surveying their enchanted domain

Whilst the wind howled an ancient refrain

So I stood on the edge of my world

And the sea was black and swollen

And the sky was red and molten

But the tide rose and fell

For the moon had broke the spell

Alors je me suis tenu au bord de mon monde

À un endroit où le ciel rencontre la mer

Mais mon refuge était un chaudron de bile

Car la mer a été ensorcelée et souillée

Il y a un passage qui mène au rivage

Il y a une étape pour chaque jour de l'année

Ils sont anciens mais ils ont résisté à l'épreuve du temps

Ceux qui s'aventurent ont peu à craindre

Alors je me suis tenu sur le vieux mur du port

Alors que certains goélands à tête noire chancelaient puis s'arrêtaient

C'était l'hiver et les têtes de mouettes étaient devenues blanches

Comme tant d'hermines envoûtées et bénies du vol

Arpentant leur domaine enchanté

Tandis que le vent hurlait un vieux refrain

Alors je me suis tenu au bord de mon monde

À un endroit où le ciel rencontre la mer

Mais mon refuge était un chaudron de bile

Car la mer a été ensorcelée et souillée

Et la mer était noire et gonflée

Et le ciel était rouge et fondu

Mais la marée montait et descendait

Car la lune avait rompu le charme
