The rock is gonna fall on us, he woke with a start

And he ran to his mother, the fear dark in his heart

And he told her of the vision that he was sure he’d seen

She said: «Go back to sleep son, you’re having a bad dream!»

Silly child--

Everybody knows the rock leans over the town

Everybody knows that it won’t tumble to the ground

Remember Chicken Little said the sky was falling down

Well nothing ever came of that, the world still whirls around

«The rock is gonna fall on us,» he stood and told the class

The professor put his chalk down and peered out through his glasses

But he went on and said;

«I've seen it, high up on the hill

If it doesn’t fall this year then very soon it will!»

Crazy boy--

Everybody knows the rock leans over the town

Everybody knows that it won’t tumble to the ground

We’ve more important studies than your fantasies and fears

You know that rock’s been perched up there for a hundred thousand years

«The rock is gonna fall on us.»

He told the magistrates

«I believe that we can stop it but the time is getting late

You see I’ve done all the research my plans are all complete.»

He was showing them contingencies when they showed him to the street

Just a madman--

Everybody knows the rock leans over the town

Everybody knows of those who say the end is near

Everybody knows that life goes on as usual round here

He went up on the mountain beside the giant stone

They knew he was insane so they left him all alone

He’d given up enlisting help for there was no one else

He spent his days devising ways to stop the rock himself

One night while he was working building braces on the ledge

The ground began to rumble the rock trembled on the edge

«The rock is gonna fall on us!

Run or you’ll all be crushed!»

And indeed the rock was moving, crumbling all to dust

He ran under it with one last hope that he could add a prop

And as he disappeared the rock came to a stop

The people ran into the street but by then all was still

The rock seemed where it always was or where it always will be

When someone asked where he had gone they said: «Oh he was daft

Who cares about that crazy fool.»

And then they’d start to laugh

But high up on the mountain

When the wind is hitting it

If you’re watching very closely

The rock slips a little bit

Elle a dit : "Retourne dormir fils, tu fais un mauvais rêve !"

Enfant stupide--

Tout le monde sait que le rocher se penche sur la ville

Tout le monde sait qu'il ne tombera pas par terre

Rappelez-vous que Chicken Little a dit que le ciel tombait

Eh bien, rien n'est jamais venu de ça, le monde tourne toujours autour

"La pierre va tomber sur nous", il se leva et dit à la classe

Le professeur posa sa craie et regarda à travers ses lunettes

Mais il a continué et a dit ;

"Je l'ai vu, en haut de la colline

Si ça ne tombe pas cette année, ça tombera très bientôt !"

Garçon fou--

Tout le monde sait que le rocher se penche sur la ville

Tout le monde sait qu'il ne tombera pas par terre

Nous avons des études plus importantes que tes fantasmes et tes peurs

Tu sais que le rocher est perché là-haut depuis cent mille ans

"La pierre va tomber sur nous."

Il a dit aux magistrats

"Je crois que nous pouvons l'arrêter mais il se fait tard

Vous voyez que j'ai fait toutes les recherches, mes plans sont tous terminés. »

Il leur montrait des éventualités quand ils l'ont emmené dans la rue

Juste un fou--

Tout le monde sait que le rocher se penche sur la ville

Tout le monde sait qu'il ne tombera pas par terre

Tout le monde connaît ceux qui disent que la fin est proche

Tout le monde sait que la vie continue comme d'habitude ici

Il est monté sur la montagne à côté de la pierre géante

Ils savaient qu'il était fou alors ils l'ont laissé tout seul

Il avait renoncé à solliciter de l'aide car il n'y avait personne d'autre

Il a passé ses journées à trouver des moyens d'arrêter lui-même le rocher

Une nuit alors qu'il travaillait à la construction d'appareils orthodontiques sur le rebord

Le sol a commencé à gronder, le rocher a tremblé sur le bord

"La pierre va nous tomber dessus !

Courez ou vous serez tous écrasés !"

Et en effet, la roche bougeait, émiettant tout en poussière

Il a couru dessous avec un dernier espoir de pouvoir ajouter un accessoire

Et alors qu'il disparaissait, le rocher s'arrêta

Les gens ont couru dans la rue mais à ce moment-là tout était calme

Le rocher semblait où il a toujours été ou où il sera toujours

Quand quelqu'un a demandé où il était allé, ils ont dit : "Oh il était idiot

Qui se soucie de cet imbécile fou.»

Et puis ils se mettaient à rire

Mais en haut de la montagne

Quand le vent le frappe

Si vous surveillez de très près

La roche glisse un peu
