4 a.m. comes awful early, and I was dead on my feet

But if you gonna catch the biggest fish

You gotta lose a little sleep

Well, I pack my gear and a couple beers

I headed for my favorite spot

Well, I curse my luck when I saw his truck right where I pulled off

Was hoping to have the river to myself that day

Why it is your standin' there

The way the sun bounced off the water

I could hardly make him out

But I could see he had a fish on

A big ole rainbow trout

The fight went on forever

And as they headed down my way, I saw his

military hair cut and the new scars on his face

Right then I knew what brought him to this place

He held that fish down in the water

And he coaxed it to back to life

He said «Help, you get your wind back

And all I could think to say was «Welcome home»

But I think that river said it best on its own

4 heures du matin arrivent terriblement tôt, et j'étais mort sur mes pieds

Mais si tu vas attraper le plus gros poisson

Tu dois perdre un peu de sommeil

Eh bien, je prépare mon équipement et quelques bières

Je me suis dirigé vers mon endroit préféré

Eh bien, je maudis ma chance quand j'ai vu son camion juste là où je m'étais arrêté

J'espérais avoir la rivière pour moi ce jour-là

Parce que la rivière ne parle pas, la rivière s'en fiche

La façon dont le soleil rebondit sur l'eau

Je pouvais à peine le distinguer

Mais je pouvais voir qu'il avait un poisson sur

Une grosse truite arc-en-ciel

Le combat a duré pour toujours

Et alors qu'ils se dirigeaient vers moi, j'ai vu son

coupe de cheveux militaire et les nouvelles cicatrices sur son visage

À ce moment-là, j'ai su ce qui l'avait amené à cet endroit

Tu sais que la rivière ne parle pas, la rivière s'en fiche

Où tu as été, ce que tu as fait

Je ne sais pas pourquoi c'est que tu restes là

Ça roule juste en chuchotant à ton âme

Il a tenu ce poisson dans l'eau

Et il l'a persuadé de revenir à la vie

Il a dit "A l'aide, tu reprends ton souffle

Parce que tu m'aides à obtenir le mien »

Et tout ce que je pouvais penser à dire était "Bienvenue à la maison"

Mais je pense que cette rivière l'a mieux dit par elle-même
