The Indifferent Hedgehog - Stackridge

There’s a Hedgehog on my fence

He treats me with indifference

And I in turn ignore him

Even though he’s close to me

I was told when I was small

That China wasn’t far at all

But now I can’t remember

Why I’ve never been to see

Long ago when I was smaller

I remember growing taller

If I could be kind and good

The world would smile on me

Tell me what you want to know

Ask me and I’ll try to show you

Everywhere there is to go

And everything to see

There’s a Sparrow on my roof

Who manages to stay aloof

And go about his daily business

Much the same as me

Il me traite avec indifférence

Et je l'ignore à mon tour

Même s'il est proche de moi

On m'a dit quand j'étais petit

Que la Chine n'était pas loin du tout

Mais maintenant je ne me souviens plus

Pourquoi je n'ai jamais été voir

Il y a longtemps, quand j'étais plus petit

Je me souviens avoir grandi

Si je pouvais être gentil et bon

Le monde me sourirait

Dites-moi ce que vous voulez savoir

Demandez-moi et j'essaierai de vous montrer

Partout où il y a aller

Et tout à voir

Il y a un moineau sur mon toit

Qui parvient à rester à l'écart ?

Et vaquer à ses occupations quotidiennes

Un peu comme moi
