The Falls - The Mutton Birds

We used to live next to the Falls

A long time ago, so they say

Someone pointed to the mist

And turned to his sister to say

«There must be a story behind all that»

And soon there was

Demons and demigods

One day, when I was small

I saw the lights turning on

In the town across the bay

I turned to my sister to say

Electrons, wire and glass

On the news the other day

I saw a crowd at the top of the Falls

I saw a man save someone else’s child

Lifted her up out of harm’s way

It started me thinking

Since we moved away from the Falls

My days don’t seem to work out right

Nothing I can put my finger on

But just before I get to sleep at night

I think I can hear the water rushing

And these stories aren’t ones I know

I don’t want to let them go

J'ai vu une foule au sommet des chutes

J'ai vu un homme sauver l'enfant de quelqu'un d'autre

L'a soulevée hors de danger

Cela m'a fait réfléchir

Depuis que nous nous sommes éloignés des chutes

Mes journées ne semblent pas se dérouler correctement

Rien sur quoi je puisse mettre le doigt

Mais juste avant de m'endormir la nuit

Je pense que je peux entendre l'eau se précipiter

Et ces histoires ne sont pas celles que je connais

Je ne veux pas les laisser partir
