Well late last night, in the Kettle of Fish

I was havin' a glass of beer

When up comes a Rounder by the name of Sam

That lately been seen around here

He gives me a «Howdy» and he buys me a drink

And he calls me by my name

Says some of the boys are just a-waitin' upstairs

Would you like to have a Poker game

There were four or five fellas round the table upstairs

The smoke was thick as sin

They took my coat and they pulled up a chair

And they proceeded to deal me in

I started in winnin' with the very first hand

And I kept on winnin' for a while

I had money in my pockets and money in my shoes

And money in a great big pile

But it’s —

Oh Lordy, don’t you see

This old Stud Poker be the ruin of me

You got to get ready to shed some blood

When the name of the game is Stud

I kept on winnin' for an hour or more

And the boys were feelin' low

I was lookin' like a winner n' feeling like a sinner

And I just about had their dough

I caught a pair of aces on the very last hand

And I bet my whole bank-roll

But Sam he had a pair of deuces on the deck

And another deuce in the hole

And it’s —

Oh Lordy, don’t you see

You know I lost every penny I had in the world

I lost my last red cent

Now my old woman ain’t talkin' to me

And the landlord wants his rent

I know I had it comin' and it sure enough did

And I’ve only got myself to blame

But my fingers keep itching and I keep on twitching

Just to find another Poker game

And it’s —

Eh bien tard hier soir, dans la marmite de poissons

J'étais en train de boire un verre de bière

Quand arrive un Rounder du nom de Sam

Qui a récemment été vu par ici

Il me fait "Bonjour" et il m'offre un verre

Et il m'appelle par mon nom

Dit que certains des garçons attendent juste à l'étage

Aimeriez-vous avoir un jeu de poker ?

Il y avait quatre ou cinq gars autour de la table à l'étage

La fumée était épaisse comme un péché

Ils ont pris mon manteau et ils ont tiré une chaise

Et ils ont commencé à me vendre

J'ai commencé à gagner avec la toute première main

Et j'ai continué à gagner pendant un moment

J'avais de l'argent dans mes poches et de l'argent dans mes chaussures

Et de l'argent dans un gros tas

Mais c'est -

Tu dois te préparer à verser du sang

Lorsque le nom du jeu est Stud

J'ai continué à gagner pendant une heure ou plus

Et les garçons se sentaient mal

Je ressemblais à un gagnant et je me sentais comme un pécheur

Et j'ai à peu près eu leur pâte

J'ai attrapé une paire d'as à la toute dernière main

Et je parie tout mon bank-roll

Mais Sam, il avait une paire de deux sur le pont

Et un autre diable dans le trou

Et son -

Oh Seigneur, ne vois-tu pas

Lorsque le nom du jeu est Stud

Tu sais que j'ai perdu chaque centime que j'avais dans le monde

J'ai perdu mon dernier centime rouge

Maintenant ma vieille femme ne me parle plus

Et le propriétaire veut son loyer

Je sais que je l'ai venu et c'est bien sûr le cas

Et je n'ai que moi-même à blâmer

Mais mes doigts continuent de me démanger et je continue de trembler

Juste pour trouver un autre jeu de poker
