The French and the Wine - Weltenbrand

When the French were in the country they camped in Triesen by the Rhein and

from there they came up to the upper village and stole the cattle

But in particular they were interested in the wine they retrieved from the

cellars and poured into wash buckets so full that is splashed out from both

sides

When they carried the load back to their camp in one house an old woman had

hidden her belongings in the cellar and erected a wood pile in front of the

door

The soldiers however discovered the secret invaded the cellar ravished it and

drank themselves into delirium

The farmer woman came upon them and begged that they at least would leave for

her a small barrel with old wine

One infantryman knocked the plug out of the barrel so that the wine gushed onto

the floor and he howled in broken German:

Yes good lady — after all it is war…

Quand les Français étaient dans le pays, ils campaient à Triesen près du Rhin et

de là, ils sont montés vers le haut du village et ont volé le bétail

Mais en particulier, ils étaient intéressés par le vin qu'ils récupéraient du

caves et versé dans des seaux de lavage si pleins qu'ils sont éclaboussés des deux

côtés

Quand ils ont ramené la charge à leur camp dans une maison, une vieille femme avait

a caché ses affaires dans la cave et a érigé un tas de bois devant la

porte

Les soldats ont cependant découvert le secret ont envahi la cave l'ont ravie et

s'enivraient jusqu'au délire

La fermière est venue sur eux et a supplié qu'ils partent au moins pour

lui un petit tonneau avec du vieux vin

Un fantassin a fait tomber le bouchon du baril de sorte que le vin a jailli sur

le sol et il hurla dans un allemand approximatif :

Oui bonne dame - après tout, c'est la guerre...
