Farewell, thou art too dear for my possessing

And like enough thou know’st thy estimate

The charter of thy worth gives thee releasing

My bonds in thee are all determinate

For how do I hold thee but by thy granting

And for that riches where is my deserving?

The cause of this fair gift in me is wanting

And so my patent back again is swerving

Thyself thou gav’st, thy own worth then not knowing

Or me, to whom thou gav’st it, else mistaking

So thy great gift, upon misprision growing

Comes home again, on better judgment making

Thus have I had thee as a dream doth flatter

In sleep a king, but waking no such matter

Adieu, tu es trop chère pour que je la possède

Et comme assez tu connais ton estimation

La charte de ta valeur te donne la libération

Mes liens en toi sont tous déterminés

Car comment puis-je te retenir si ce n'est par ton accord

Et pour cette richesse, où est-ce que je mérite ?

La cause de ce beau cadeau en moi manque

Et donc mon brevet est à nouveau en train de dévier

Tu t'es donné toi-même, ta propre valeur alors ne sachant pas

Ou moi, à qui tu l'as donné, sinon tu te trompes

Alors ton grand cadeau, après une erreur de prise croissante

Rentre à la maison, après un meilleur jugement

Ainsi t'ai-je eu comme un rêve qui flatte

Dans le sommeil d'un roi, mais le réveil n'a pas d'importance
