Jennifer's Rabbit / I Give You the Morning - Tom Paxton

Ennifer slept in her little bed

With dreams of a rabbit in her little head

Jennifer’s rabbit, brown and white

Left the house and ran away one night

Along with a turtle and a kangaroo

And seventeen monkeys from the city zoo

And Jennifer too

They ran through the forest and they all held hands

They came to the ocean with the cookie crumb sands

They called it the sea of the very best dreams

And they all built a castle of the best moonbeams

And milky way streams

And there on the sand where the star fish play

The ship sailed in from the moonbeam bay

And they all went sailing on the starlight sea

Where they all had cookies with oolong tea

And Jenny had three

They danced on the decks of the red-sailed brig

The monkeys and the sailors did a whirling jig

Turtle played the fiddle and the rabbit played kazoo

And they bowed to each other as polite folks do

And Jenny bowed too

Then, «My!»

said the turtle as the clock struck three

«The hour is growing very late for me.»

«Not at all,» said the rabbit.

«And I’ll tell you why

We still havn’t counted every star in the sky»

Said Jenny «Let's try.»

So they counted on the ship and they counted on the shore

They counted through the forest to the bedroom door

They counted in bed till they could count no more

Then they all fell asleep and the final score

Was a trillion and four

Yes the rabbit and the turtle and the kangaroo

And Jenny fell asleep like sleepy folks do

Just like you

Ennifer a dormi dans son petit lit

Avec des rêves d'un lapin dans sa petite tête

Le lapin de Jennifer, marron et blanc

A quitté la maison et s'est enfui une nuit

Avec une tortue et un kangourou

Et dix-sept singes du zoo de la ville

Et Jenifer aussi

Ils ont couru à travers la forêt et ils se sont tous tenus la main

Ils sont venus à l'océan avec les sables de miettes de biscuits

Ils l'appelaient la mer des meilleurs rêves

Et ils ont tous construit un château des meilleurs rayons de lune

Et les ruisseaux de la voie lactée

Et là sur le sable où jouent les étoiles de mer

Le navire a navigué depuis la baie du rayon de lune

Et ils sont tous allés naviguer sur la mer étoilée

Où ils avaient tous des cookies avec du thé oolong

Et Jenny en avait trois

Ils ont dansé sur les ponts du brick à voiles rouges

Les singes et les marins ont fait une gigue tourbillonnante

La tortue jouait du violon et le lapin jouait du kazoo

Et ils se sont inclinés l'un vers l'autre comme le font les gens polis

Et Jenny s'inclina aussi

Alors mon!"

dit la tortue alors que l'horloge sonnait trois

"L'heure se fait très tardive pour moi."

"Pas du tout", dit le lapin.

"Et je vais te dire pourquoi

Nous n'avons toujours pas compté toutes les étoiles dans le ciel »

Dit Jenny "Essayons."

Alors ils ont compté sur le navire et ils ont compté sur le rivage

Ils ont compté à travers la forêt jusqu'à la porte de la chambre

Ils ont compté au lit jusqu'à ce qu'ils ne puissent plus compter

Puis ils se sont tous endormis et le score final

Était un billion et quatre

Oui le lapin et la tortue et le kangourou

Et Jenny s'est endormie comme le font les gens endormis

Juste comme toi
